Ten Yard Fight RAP AROUND, 1995

Spending my day searching youtube for 90s hardcore videos has yielded some hilarious results.  Take this clip from a local Boston teevee show called “RAP AROUND.”  It appears to be some kind of youth-oriented talk show dreamed up by the creators of Saved by the Bell.  On this episode is Ten Yard Fight, where they discuss hardcore, going to shows and all things straight-edge.

And if anyone needs more of a reason to watch, the intro flashes the following across the screen: ”They don’t drink. They don’t do drugs.  They don’t fool around.  But they play loud and live on the edge…” GO!!!

There’s a part 2 and a part 3 as well, which are equally hilarious, and feature a debate between the band and a former “straight-edger,” as well as a live performance of Offsides

HOLY FUCK this is awesome!

I also love that Andy (andrew) from Piebald has a cameo

sitting

in my underwear eating a plate of frozen, microwavable, mixed vegetables with nothing to do. when I am on tour I have stuff to do everyday, there is a schedule, always know what’s gonna happen next. But when I’m home, I wake up at noon get out of bed and literally stand up and say…. uhhhhh welll shit what am i gonna do now. sometimes that’s super depressing and sometimes it rules, sometimes I try to figure out what i “should” be doing and sometimes I just get a bottle of wine and listen to records all day. I’m not trying to brag Blog about it, i’m just putting it out there.  well at least my internet is working today. I have no clue where the wireless signal i use comes from, i don’t pay for it, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. it’s 2:00PM on a tuesday and all i’ve done today was ate a bowl of cereal, a plate of mixed vegetables and watched the cokie the clown video from SXSW that everyone is talking about.  I’m glad I don’t do drugs, I drink to much but at least I don’t do drugs.  why am i putting this on the internet? oh well

i’m havin a good week. this past weekend, I headed out to Phoenix to play a show. I don’t think Limbeck has truly played as a full band for about 2 years. I’m not really counting the time last August when we were hitting the road as a 3-piece, but were a little too intimidated to start the tour w/ Justin watching Robb and I take a crack at playing the bass, so we bullied him into playing the show with us. I knew there was the potential for a pretty huge disaster, but man… we pulled it off like it was the last night on a 2 month tour. sooooooo fun. it’s amazing how us four dudes can not see each other for half a year, and not play together for even longer, but then pick up like we didn’t skip a beat. the biggest bummer of the whole thing hit me yesterday… because usually when we play a show, we’re off to the next city the next day. talking shit in the van. arguing about where we’re gonna eat. looking for a place to go swimming. but instead, it was robby and I in the van, heading back home. I miss those dudes. And i’ll never stop saying it, but I am SOOOO appreciative of all the times we’ve had. somehow, someday i’m gonna sit down and put together a book of some of our more notable stories. I trip out all the time about how lucky we are to have traveled this country so many times, and traveled out of it a few too.. and to do it all together. dang.
so enough nostalgia. for now. it was a great trip though. jonny p freaked me out a bit cuz him and his buddies were road-trippin’ all the way from milwaukee out to phx, but they were CHAMPS. they were able to overcome a breakdown in Illinois, and a snowstorm w/ the i-40 getting shutdown, and still make it to phoenix with an hour or two to spare before we had to play. Justin was doin rad. has a little dude (baby) on the way in the next month or so. Our good friend Sheffield made the trip out with us, which was also a great thing. He was responsible for us getting signed with Doghouse Records, and ended up being an amazing friend, and a great help with all things music, and life, in general. We played at the Hard Rock Cafe, which was a new thing for them to actually host shows. Our “home” venue, the Modified, has recently stopped doing shows, but the Hard Rock held it together quite all right. The drinks were a little high-priced, and they definitely got mad at me for sitting on Smashmouth’s motorcycle that was sittin in the window, but other than that, seamless. saw too many of our favorite friends, and had a great night.
Got some ink and some records the next day (including another Linda Ronstadt record, who i’m absolutely LOVING right now), then had a leisurely drive back via i-10 with Robby and Sheffer.
It’s good to be back in San Clemente now. Cooper totally blew my mind the other night by singing “Twinkle Twinkle” AAAAAND the ABC’s with me. Who knew that after singing those songs to him every other night or so that he would be memorizing the words. AMAZING. so tonight we video taped him singin the ABC’s, which I will post VERY SOON. then later when it was REALLY bed time, I asked him if he wanted to sing “Oh My Sweet Carolina” with me, cuz I usually sing that song to him every few nights. and would you believe it, but he totally nailed the first verse and chorus. I seriously almost teared up. What a cool kid I’ve got.
Current mood: appreciative.
Pic up above is (I believe) from Milwaukee when Limbeck played at Turner Hall.

this just made me tear up while sitting by myself at a coffee shop in Los Angeles, CA
